Mamelodi Sundowns vs Polokwane City - 8 Cup

Tactical intrigue takes centre stage on August 8, 2026 as Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City prepare to square off at the home ground, with both managers known for their strategic nuance in the 8 Cup. Manchester United play in Gothenburg on Saturday as they take on Paris-Saint Germain in their fourth pre-season fixture.

Both camps will view the 8 Cup meeting at the home ground as an opportunity to put a marker down, regardless of where they currently stand. The hosts will hope that the the home ground crowd can inspire a performance, whatever the numbers suggest. The visitors will travel in the hope that a change of scene can spark a turnaround, whatever the form book says. That’s according to Miguel Delaney of the Independent, who also adds that the Gunners remain keen on another world class forward in the form of Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

Set-piece efficiency could prove the difference on the night. Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City have invested time in dead-ball situations this season, and a single corner or free-kick may settle it. Everton are aware of interest from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal, but there has been no formal approach or contact with them, and they have no appetite to sell the 26-year-old, who has three years on his deal.

Neither side is short on individuals capable of tilting the balance, and the duel between the two squads' chief creators could prove particularly pivotal. The battle in midfield, where both sides look to control tempo, could prove the decisive arena. Coventry are without a point or a goal in their first four matches of the Premier League season.

The market has yet to form a strong view, and the contest looks genuinely difficult to call. With the sides so closely matched, a 1-1 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. With positions in the 8 Cup table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank. All I ever wanted to do was win a championship for the New York Giants.” Beckham Jr is likely to play in the Giants’ first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium next weekend.
