Mamelodi Sundowns vs Golden Arrows - 8 Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns prepare to host Golden Arrows at the home ground on August 23, 2026, with both sides eager to assert their credentials and claim a result that could define their 8 Cup season. Josh Allen had an impressive first game at the Buffalo Bills’ new stadium in their second NFL fixture of the season.

Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows will be eager to build momentum when they meet in 8 Cup. Mamelodi Sundowns's recent form is difficult to quantify, but the occasion itself should bring the best out of them. The visitors will travel in the hope that a change of scene can spark a turnaround, whatever the form book says. Arsenal also saw the importance of having good depth at right-back when Mosquera was forced to start the Champions League final with PSG out of position - which then resulted in the young Spaniard conceding a penalty.

Wing play is likely to be central to the contest. Mamelodi Sundowns will look to stretch the pitch and isolate their wide attackers, while Golden Arrows must find a way to compress the space and choke the supply lines. Anderson can still play proactively from deep, but he will have other technical players around him to lighten the load in possession, and zones to hit rather than always playing to feet.

The fixture is likely to be shaped by its key performers, with creative midfielders and clinical finishers on both sides capable of turning the game in an instant. How each side deals with the other's danger men — and who takes their chances when they come — will be central to the outcome. Newcastle and Nottingham Forest were interested in the midfielder, and it remains to be seen whether he will be at the club after deadline day.

The market has yet to form a strong view, and the contest looks genuinely difficult to call. With the sides so closely matched, a 1-1 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. With positions in the 8 Cup table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank.
