There is plenty riding on this Coppa Italia encounter for Cagliari and Arezzo alike, and neither will want to leave Unipol Domus empty-handed. The hosts will hope that the Unipol Domus crowd can inspire a performance, whatever the numbers suggest. Tactically, the contest promises a fascinating contrast. Cagliari will look to impose their style on home soil, while Arezzo are likely to have ideas of their own about how to gain the upper hand. They were slightly found out against Amorim's Milan in pre-season, with the press not quite sharp enough - the fourth goal, in particular, came from just one ball over a high-lined defence.

Individual quality could tip the balance. The league's leading scorer J. Pohjanpalo, with 3 goals to his name this season, is a reminder of the firepower on display. How each side deals with the other's danger men — and who takes their chances when they come — will be central to the outcome. Another midfielder remains on the agenda with Manu Kone and Aurelien Tchouameni among those linked to a move to Old Trafford.

The fixture has the feel of a coin-flip, and picking a winner with any conviction would require a braver pundit than most. With the sides so closely matched, a 1-1 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. With positions in the Coppa Italia table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank. And Fonseca does not place too much weight on the decision of Roberto Martinez to omit him from the World Cup squad in favour of his Benfica team-mate Tomas Araujo.
