Ware vs Fakenham Town - FA Cup

There is a notable edge to this FA Cup fixture. When Ware meet Fakenham Town at the home ground on September 5, 2026, both will sense an opportunity to land a telling blow. The 74-year-old Hoops boss admitted that "it'll be a bit strange not having the (Celtic) fans in but I'm nervously and excitedly looking forward to it; it's a great fixture" and also spoke about the police visit.

A glance at the FA Cup table tells the story: Ware in 7th and Fakenham Town in 126th, with positions to defend and places to climb. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. The visitors will back themselves to cause problems and will not make the trip expecting an easy afternoon. If you're Arsenal and wanting to win the Premier League, and you take six points off those teams, then you're near-on winning the Premier League.

The tactical subplot is compelling: Ware favour a possession-based game built on patience and control, while Fakenham Town are happiest sitting deep and exploding forward on the counter — a classic contrast of philosophies. But this approach also takes something that is almost anonymous in football - time.

In fixtures as finely poised as this one, it often comes down to who holds their nerve in the big moments — and both camps have players who relish that responsibility. The battle in midfield, where both sides look to control tempo, could prove the decisive arena. Another midfielder is wanted after already signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, with strengthening the left-hand side of their team also being a priority.

Predicting an outright winner is no easy task given how little separates the two sides on paper. Given the balance of the numbers, Ware should have enough to edge it — a 2-1 victory looks the most likely outcome. Whatever the outcome, the FA Cup fixture promises a meaningful contest with real implications for both clubs. The club are understood to favour a profile closer to Aurelien Tchouameni or a Premier League‑proven alternative rather than Manu Kone.
