Vitoria vs Vasco DA Gama - Copa Do Brasil

The Copa Do Brasil returns to the home ground on September 3, 2026, where Vitoria and Vasco DA Gama will lock horns in a contest that could shape their respective campaigns. That coronation came from City's £116m summer signing Elliot Anderson - and has been hotly debated in the build-up to the Manchester derby Super Sunday showdown at Old Trafford, which you can watch live on Sky Sports.

Positionally there is a clear hierarchy: Vitoria sit 24th, Vasco DA Gama lie 3rd, but the Copa Do Brasil has a habit of defying such logic. The hosts will hope that the the home ground crowd can inspire a performance, whatever the numbers suggest. Vasco DA Gama will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. Paulo Fonseca's men are still smarting from their Champions League play-off exit but now sit third in the table.

Tactically, the contest promises a fascinating contrast. Vitoria will look to impose their style on home soil, while Vasco DA Gama are likely to have ideas of their own about how to gain the upper hand. No wonder the skipper had talked of a 'new Aston Villa' in the pre-match press conference with what seemed like genuine excitement.

The fixture boasts genuine star quality. With Carlos Vinícius topping the Copa Do Brasil scoring charts at 3 goals, the stage is set for the kind of individual brilliance that can swing a contest. Discipline at the back and sharpness in front of goal will likely tilt the balance one way or the other. Perhaps the finances in the game will be reined in moving forward and some kind of normality will return to the professional game.

Predictions are tricky when the sides are this evenly matched, and small margins — a moment of quality, a slice of luck — could decide it either way. On balance, Vasco DA Gama may just have enough to take all three points. A 1-2 away win would not be a shock. With positions in the Copa Do Brasil table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank. All I ever wanted to do was win a championship for the New York Giants.” Beckham Jr is likely to play in the Giants’ first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium next weekend.
