Vitoria vs Piauí - Copa do Nordeste

Tactical intrigue takes centre stage on April 16, 2026 as Vitoria and Piauí prepare to square off at the home ground, with both managers known for their strategic nuance in the Copa do Nordeste. He is expected to miss the Community Shield game against Arsenal and the opening Premier League fixture of the season as a result.

The two sides arrive with plenty to prove, and the Copa do Nordeste contest at the home ground offers a chance to lay down a marker. Vitoria will be keen to seize the initiative and build some momentum on home soil. Piauí will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. It’s safe to say that Paige Bueckers is putting up elite all-around numbers in her second WNBA season for the Dallas Wings, averaging over 20 points and nearly six assists a night.

Set-piece efficiency and transition play often decide fixtures of this nature, and both managers will have been drilling those phases on the training ground. Everton are aware of interest from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal, but there has been no formal approach or contact with them, and they have no appetite to sell the 26-year-old, who has three years on his deal.

The fixture is likely to be shaped by its key performers, with creative midfielders and clinical finishers on both sides capable of turning the game in an instant. How each side deals with the other's danger men — and who takes their chances when they come — will be central to the outcome. Adeyemi came on as a substitute to score a wonderful goal against Atalanta in the Champions League.

Predictions are tricky when the sides are this evenly matched, and small margins — a moment of quality, a slice of luck — could decide it either way. Neither side holds a clear edge, and a 1-1 draw would be a fitting reflection of the balance between them. With positions in the Copa do Nordeste table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank. And Fonseca does not place too much weight on the decision of Roberto Martinez to omit him from the World Cup squad in favour of his Benfica team-mate Tomas Araujo.
