Vila Nova vs Fortaleza EC - Serie B

All eyes turn to the home ground on July 22, 2026 as Vila Nova welcome Fortaleza EC in a Serie B encounter that promises tension, intrigue and no shortage of subplot. The left-back was taken off in the final minutes against Everton with cramp, and was not risked for the Champions League clash vs Sabah on Thursday.

In the Serie B table, Vila Nova currently occupy 4th and Fortaleza EC sit 3rd, and the context adds genuine weight to what is already an intriguing fixture. The hosts have been steady if unspectacular, WLWDW in their last five reflecting a win rate of 51.85%. Fortaleza EC have travelled reasonably well, DWWDW over their last five with a season win rate of 46.43%. The contrast in attacking output — 1.44 versus 1.11 goals per game — adds an extra layer of intrigue. How each side deals with the other's danger men — and who takes their chances when they come — will be central to the outcome. Man United transfer dialogue 'still open' as two striker deals on the cards.

The fixture has the feel of a coin-flip, and picking a winner with any conviction would require a braver pundit than most. Fortaleza EC look well-equipped to take the points on the road, with a 1-2 victory well within their reach. The ramifications of this result could ripple through the Serie B standings for weeks to come, regardless of who comes out on top. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters says a verdict on the alleged charges against Manchester City "has taken longer than expected".
