Ujpest vs Universitatea Cluj - Friendlies Clubs

The Friendlies Clubs returns to the home ground on June 27, 2026, where Ujpest and Universitatea Cluj will lock horns in a contest that could shape their respective campaigns. Real have been keen to sign the Spain captain from Manchester City, but they now face competition from Barcelona for the 30-year-old, who has a year remaining on his contract at the Etihad.

The two sides arrive with plenty to prove, and the Friendlies Clubs contest at the home ground offers a chance to lay down a marker. Ujpest's recent form is difficult to quantify, but the occasion itself should bring the best out of them. Universitatea Cluj will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. Leeds will not improve on their third offer but have left it on the table in case Saints reconsider their position.

Stylistically, this is a compelling matchup. Ujpest favour a patient, possession-based approach, whereas Universitatea Cluj are at their most dangerous when allowed to hit quickly on the counter. Rico Lewis played at right-back, but when City were in possession he tucked infield and supported the midfield pairing of Mateo Kovacic and Reijnders.

Game-changers are scattered across both line-ups, and the contest may well be decided by which side's match-winners deliver on the day. Set-piece specialists and aerial threats on both sides mean dead-ball situations could carry outsized importance. Dundee defender Ryan Astley has insisted Duncan Ferguson would be a great pick to become the next Scotland manager, having worked with him at Everton - Daily Record.

The fixture has the feel of a coin-flip, and picking a winner with any conviction would require a braver pundit than most. A share of the spoils looks the most probable outcome, with neither side holding a decisive edge — a 1-1 draw feels like a fitting result. The ramifications of this result could ripple through the Friendlies Clubs standings for weeks to come, regardless of who comes out on top. A more central role appears likely given the sale of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and the anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Amadou Onana at the World Cup.
