Twente vs Gent - Friendlies Clubs

The Friendlies Clubs returns to the home ground on July 18, 2026, where Twente and Gent will lock horns in a contest that could shape their respective campaigns. Chelsea take on Serie A giants Juventus in Hong Kong this morning in the latest fixture on their pre-season tour of Asia.

Form and standings can only tell part of the story when Twente and Gent cross paths in the Friendlies Clubs, and pride alone should guarantee a contest. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. The visitors will back themselves to cause problems and will not make the trip expecting an easy afternoon. What happened is that when the team was being defeated game after game, they put more money on the table to solve the problem." It did not work.

Set-piece efficiency could prove the difference on the night. Both Twente and Gent have invested time in dead-ball situations this season, and a single corner or free-kick may settle it. Andoni Iraola, like Luis Enrique, is a coach who demands that his players press high.

Individual moments of quality could tip the balance. Both sides possess players capable of producing something out of nothing, and a single flash of brilliance may be all that separates them. Discipline at the back and sharpness in front of goal will likely tilt the balance one way or the other. Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito is among those United could consider.

Without the market to lean on, the contest feels genuinely open — and the outcome may come down to which side handles the occasion better. With the sides so closely matched, a 1-1 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. The ramifications of this result could ripple through the Friendlies Clubs standings for weeks to come, regardless of who comes out on top. Fulham's Antonee Robinson could be one of those, who would likely be a cheaper alternative to Hall, who has just enjoyed a breakout season with the Magpies.
