Saluzzo vs Derthona - Serie D - Girone A

The history between Saluzzo and Derthona lends this Serie D - Girone A fixture an extra layer of spice, and when the two walk out at Stadio Amedeo Damiano on May 3, 2026, recent encounters will be on everyone's mind. He is expected to miss the Community Shield game against Arsenal and the opening Premier League fixture of the season as a result.

The two sides arrive with plenty to prove, and the Serie D - Girone A contest at Stadio Amedeo Damiano offers a chance to lay down a marker. Saluzzo have held their own of late, DWW in their last five reflecting a steady win rate of 50%. Away from home the visitors have thrived, WW over their last five and a win rate of 75% marking them as genuine road warriors. The contrast in attacking output — 2 versus 1.5 goals per game — adds an extra layer of intrigue. Meanwhile, Paige Bueckers struggled to find her rhythm, going 5-for-13 for 15 points in the loss.

Tactically, the contest promises a fascinating contrast. Saluzzo will look to impose their style on home soil, while Derthona are likely to have ideas of their own about how to gain the upper hand. Their press is quick and co-ordinated in some areas of the pitch and not others.

Game-changers are scattered across both line-ups, and the contest may well be decided by which side's match-winners deliver on the day. Discipline at the back and sharpness in front of goal will likely tilt the balance one way or the other. Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has been praised by defender Josko Gvardiol for his early sessions with the team.

The market has yet to form a strong view, and the contest looks genuinely difficult to call. The signals point towards a stalemate, with the two sides closely matched across form and standings. A 2-2 draw is easy to envisage. With positions in the Serie D - Girone A table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank. And Fonseca does not place too much weight on the decision of Roberto Martinez to omit him from the World Cup squad in favour of his Benfica team-mate Tomas Araujo.
