Osaka vs Ventforet Kofu - J-League Cup

When Osaka and Ventforet Kofu clash at the home ground on September 2, 2026, the stakes extend well beyond a single result — this is a J-League Cup fixture that carries real weight for both clubs. Altrincham vs Manchester United U21s highlights and reaction from pre-season fixture.

There is little to choose between Osaka and Ventforet Kofu on paper, and the J-League Cup encounter should reflect that balance. Osaka will be keen to seize the initiative and build some momentum on home soil. Ventforet Kofu will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. Phil Foden was handed a free role in the No 10 position behind striker Muamba, who scored in consecutive pre-season games.

How the two sides approach the contest strategically will be key. Osaka will want to control proceedings in front of their own supporters, while Ventforet Kofu will back themselves to cause problems on the break. Tottenham have changed their approach and are spending big on players who already know the Premier League.

Game-changers are scattered across both line-ups, and the contest may well be decided by which side's match-winners deliver on the day. How each side deals with the other's danger men — and who takes their chances when they come — will be central to the outcome. The club are making progress in their efforts to sign the Lille midfielder, who will arrive regardless of any departures.

Predicting an outright winner is no easy task given how little separates the two sides on paper. A share of the spoils looks the most probable outcome, with neither side holding a decisive edge — a 1-1 draw feels like a fitting result. With positions in the J-League Cup table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank. Important qualities given that Bournemouth will expect him to be proactive.
