Muttenz vs Thalwil - Erste Liga Cup

All eyes turn to the home ground on October 17, 2026 as Muttenz welcome Thalwil in a Erste Liga Cup encounter that promises tension, intrigue and no shortage of subplot. Manchester United play in Gothenburg on Saturday as they take on Paris-Saint Germain in their fourth pre-season fixture.

Both Muttenz and Thalwil will be eager to build momentum when they meet in Erste Liga Cup. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. Thalwil will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. Ipswich would be open to permanent offers for the winger, who has three years to run on his contract.

How the two sides approach the contest strategically will be key. Muttenz will want to control proceedings in front of their own supporters, while Thalwil will back themselves to cause problems on the break. Their press is quick and co-ordinated in some areas of the pitch and not others.

Game-changers are scattered across both line-ups, and the contest may well be decided by which side's match-winners deliver on the day. How each side deals with the other's danger men — and who takes their chances when they come — will be central to the outcome. Watch Manchester United score their opening goal of the new Champions League campaign.

Predictions are tricky when the sides are this evenly matched, and small margins — a moment of quality, a slice of luck — could decide it either way. A share of the spoils looks the most probable outcome, with neither side holding a decisive edge — a 1-1 draw feels like a fitting result. With the standings tight and form on the line, this is a fixture neither side will want to lose. That would lead most to think that Rahm is likely to spend the 2027 season on the DP World Tour.
