Maribor vs Primorje - 1. SNL

All eyes turn to Ljudski vrt on April 18, 2026 as Maribor welcome Primorje in a 1. SNL encounter that promises tension, intrigue and no shortage of subplot. The 74-year-old Hoops boss admitted that "it'll be a bit strange not having the (Celtic) fans in but I'm nervously and excitedly looking forward to it; it's a great fixture" and also spoke about the police visit.

Both Maribor and Primorje will be eager to build momentum when they meet in 1. SNL. The hosts have done enough without setting the world alight, DDLLL over their last five and a 50% win rate to their name. The visitors will back themselves to cause problems and will not make the trip expecting an easy afternoon. One position every Premier League club still needs to strengthen in before the transfer window closes.

Stylistically, this is a compelling matchup. Maribor favour a patient, possession-based approach, whereas Primorje are at their most dangerous when allowed to hit quickly on the counter. In attack, Brazilian forward Kaua Elias has emerged as a name of interest, with United scouts watching the Shakhtar Donetsk striker after his hat‑trick against Kudrivka on Monday.

Star players on both sides will be eager to make their mark, and the individual duels across the pitch could go a long way to deciding the outcome. How each side deals with the other's danger men — and who takes their chances when they come — will be central to the outcome. But so impressive was the midfielder in that win at Auxerre that 11 senior starts later the now 20-year-old midfielder has signed for Newcastle for £35.5m – and some consider it a bargain.

With the sides closely matched, the outcome may well hinge on which team takes its chances on the day. With the sides so closely matched, a 2-2 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. The result at Ljudski vrt could resonate well beyond matchday in the 1. SNL picture. A more central role appears likely given the sale of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and the anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Amadou Onana at the World Cup.
