Match Preview

Few would have predicted the narrative arc that brings Leotar and Laktaši together at the home ground on May 16, 2026, and the underdog storyline only adds to the 1st League - RS occasion. Just as was the case in the previous meeting between the teams in April of last year, when Emery's side gave them such a scare in the Champions League tie at Villa Park, PSG were hanging on at the end.

Both Leotar and Laktaši will be eager to build momentum when they meet in 1st League - RS. Leotar's recent form is difficult to quantify, but the occasion itself should bring the best out of them. Laktaši's away form is hard to read, but they will arrive with the belief that they can trouble their hosts. Ipswich would be open to permanent offers for the winger, who has three years to run on his contract.

The tactical subplot is compelling: Leotar favour a possession-based game built on patience and control, while Laktaši are happiest sitting deep and exploding forward on the counter — a classic contrast of philosophies. Amad won possession in the PSG half before laying the ball off for Bryan Mbeumo to score.

Neither side is short on individuals capable of tilting the balance, and the duel between the two squads' chief creators could prove particularly pivotal. Whoever wins the individual duel between the two sides' chief playmakers is likely to dictate the rhythm and, ultimately, the destination of the points. The Premier League champions have been looking for a new defender with William Saliba out for an extended period of time and Jurrien Timber also sidelined with a long-term groin problem.

Predicting an outright winner is no easy task given how little separates the two sides on paper. With the sides so closely matched, a 1-1 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. The result at the home ground could resonate well beyond matchday in the 1st League - RS picture. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters says a verdict on the alleged charges against Manchester City "has taken longer than expected".
