Girona vs Alaves - Friendlies Clubs

All eyes turn to the home ground on July 25, 2026 as Girona welcome Alaves in a Friendlies Clubs encounter that promises tension, intrigue and no shortage of subplot. Manchester United drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in their fourth pre-season fixture of the summer on Saturday.

There is plenty riding on this Friendlies Clubs encounter for Girona and Alaves alike, and neither will want to leave the home ground empty-handed. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. Alaves's away form is hard to read, but they will arrive with the belief that they can trouble their hosts. Dusan Vlahovic followed up his hat-trick on Monday by completing the comeback to leave Fenerbahce four points behind Galatasaray, who snatched a late winner at Basaksehir on Friday.

Wing play is likely to be central to the contest. Girona will look to stretch the pitch and isolate their wide attackers, while Alaves must find a way to compress the space and choke the supply lines. Tuesday's print edition of ABC, as relayed by Sport Witness, have claimed that Betis turned down a €50m approach from a wealthy non-Premier League club for Antony.

Individual moments of quality could tip the balance. Both sides possess players capable of producing something out of nothing, and a single flash of brilliance may be all that separates them. Set-piece specialists and aerial threats on both sides mean dead-ball situations could carry outsized importance. City have now set an asking price of at least £70m for their star midfielder.

With the sides closely matched, the outcome may well hinge on which team takes its chances on the day. The signals point towards a stalemate, with the two sides closely matched across form and standings. A 1-1 draw is easy to envisage. With the standings tight and form on the line, this is a fixture neither side will want to lose. It is understood that his next move is most likely to take him abroad - and potentially to the Premier League.
