France vs Sweden - World Cup

There is a notable edge to this World Cup fixture. When France meet Sweden at the home ground on June 30, 2026, both will sense an opportunity to land a telling blow. Enzo Maresca and Rico Lewis held a pre-match press conference on Saturday as Manchester City prepare to face Atletico Madrid in their third pre-season friendly of the summer.

Both France and Sweden will be eager to build momentum when they meet in World Cup. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. Sweden will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. But the Reds are still unsure about Bologna's asking price for the defender, who turned 28 in June and has less than 12 months to run on his contract at the Serie A side.

Tactically, the contest promises a fascinating contrast. France will look to impose their style on home soil, while Sweden are likely to have ideas of their own about how to gain the upper hand. They are sticking to the principles of possession and pressing that have taken them from the fourth tier.

Neither side is short on individuals capable of tilting the balance, and the duel between the two squads' chief creators could prove particularly pivotal. How each side deals with the other's danger men — and who takes their chances when they come — will be central to the outcome. Manchester City midfielder Rodri is wanted by Barcelona After scoring against Atletico Madrid last weekend, Marmoush's future was put under the microscope by his manager Maresca.

With the sides closely matched, the outcome may well hinge on which team takes its chances on the day. A share of the spoils looks the most probable outcome, with neither side holding a decisive edge — a 1-1 draw feels like a fitting result. The result at the home ground could resonate well beyond matchday in the World Cup picture. A more central role appears likely given the sale of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and the anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Amadou Onana at the World Cup.
