United are one of several Premier League clubs weighing up whether to meet Bologna’s €25m (£21.7m) valuation for Jhon Lucumi, according to Corriere di Bologna.

In the Oberliga - Baden-Württemberg table, FC Nöttingen currently occupy 17th and CFR Pforzheim sit 7th, and the context adds genuine weight to what is already an intriguing fixture. FC Nöttingen are in the midst of a difficult spell, LLLLL in their last five summing up a win rate of 14.29%. CFR Pforzheim have travelled reasonably well, L over their last five with a season win rate of 50%. One side has leaned on a miserly defence, the other on a free-scoring attack, and the meeting of those contrasting strengths promises an intriguing tactical subtext. But the Reds are still unsure about Bologna's asking price for the defender, who turned 28 in June and has less than 12 months to run on his contract at the Serie A side.

How the two sides approach the contest strategically will be key. FC Nöttingen will want to control proceedings in front of their own supporters, while CFR Pforzheim will back themselves to cause problems on the break. Tuesday's print edition of ABC, as relayed by Sport Witness, have claimed that Betis turned down a €50m approach from a wealthy non-Premier League club for Antony.

Individual moments of quality could tip the balance. Both sides possess players capable of producing something out of nothing, and a single flash of brilliance may be all that separates them. Set-piece specialists and aerial threats on both sides mean dead-ball situations could carry outsized importance. Man United transfer dialogue 'still open' as two striker deals on the cards.

With the sides closely matched, the outcome may well hinge on which team takes its chances on the day. Given the balance of the numbers, CFR Pforzheim look capable of springing a surprise on the road — a 1-2 away victory is a distinct possibility. The result at the home ground could resonate well beyond matchday in the Oberliga - Baden-Württemberg picture. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters says a verdict on the alleged charges against Manchester City "has taken longer than expected".
