EVV vs Halsteren - KNVB Beker

Tactical intrigue takes centre stage on September 22, 2026 as EVV and Halsteren prepare to square off at the home ground, with both managers known for their strategic nuance in the KNVB Beker. Anderson was pointing out that City had held the whip hand in this fixture "for as long as I've known", which isn't exactly inaccurate but will also fan the flames ahead of Sunday's Old Trafford showdown.

Both EVV and Halsteren will be eager to build momentum when they meet in KNVB Beker. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. The visitors will travel in the hope that a change of scene can spark a turnaround, whatever the form book says. Tim Sherwood makes his predictions for the new Premier League season, including who he thinks will make the top four in the table.

Stylistically, this is a compelling matchup. EVV favour a patient, possession-based approach, whereas Halsteren are at their most dangerous when allowed to hit quickly on the counter. City also want to continue improving their attack, with a top left-winger still in the offing too.

Individual quality could tip the balance. The league's leading scorer Jesper Middelkamp, with 1 goals to his name this season, is a reminder of the firepower on display. The battle in midfield, where both sides look to control tempo, could prove the decisive arena. The 6ft 5in defender continued to be around the first team and made the squad for both legs against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals.

With the sides closely matched, the outcome may well hinge on which team takes its chances on the day. With the sides so closely matched, a 1-1 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. With positions in the KNVB Beker table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank. The 22-year-old was likely quite high up on the list of United's midfield targets and potentially even higher after Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga blows.
