Dong Thap vs Long An - V.League 2

Dong Thap prepare to host Long An at the home ground on May 16, 2026, with both sides eager to assert their credentials and claim a result that could define their V.League 2 season. Anderson was pointing out that City had held the whip hand in this fixture "for as long as I've known", which isn't exactly inaccurate but will also fan the flames ahead of Sunday's Old Trafford showdown.

There is little to choose between Dong Thap and Long An on paper, and the V.League 2 encounter should reflect that balance. The hosts have been in fine fettle of late, their recent run of W underlining a campaign win rate of 100%. On the road the visitors have looked devoid of inspiration, L in their last five and a win rate of 0% that makes for sobering reading. Where Dong Thap have leaned on defensive discipline, Long An have often taken the initiative going forward, and that stylistic difference should shape the contest. Phil Foden was handed a free role in the No 10 position behind striker Muamba, who scored in consecutive pre-season games.

The tactical subplot is compelling: Dong Thap favour a possession-based game built on patience and control, while Long An are happiest sitting deep and exploding forward on the counter — a classic contrast of philosophies. Tuesday's print edition of ABC, as relayed by Sport Witness, have claimed that Betis turned down a €50m approach from a wealthy non-Premier League club for Antony.

Star players on both sides will be eager to make their mark, and the individual duels across the pitch could go a long way to deciding the outcome. Set-piece specialists and aerial threats on both sides mean dead-ball situations could carry outsized importance. The Serie A side need to sell before attempting to sign a striker, however.

Predicting an outright winner is no easy task given how little separates the two sides on paper. A share of the spoils looks the most probable outcome, with neither side holding a decisive edge — a 2-2 draw feels like a fitting result. Whatever the outcome, the V.League 2 fixture promises a meaningful contest with real implications for both clubs. All I ever wanted to do was win a championship for the New York Giants.” Beckham Jr is likely to play in the Giants’ first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium next weekend.
