Tasmania NPL
Team Comparison
Devonport City
Launceston City
Match Preview
Few would have predicted the narrative arc that brings Devonport City and Launceston City together at the home ground on August 8, 2026, and the underdog storyline only adds to the Tasmania NPL occasion. United could come up against Garnacho once again this forthcoming season, with United scheduled to face Villa on November 7 at Old Trafford, before the return visit to Villa Park on January 16.
Both Devonport City and Launceston City will be eager to build momentum when they meet in Tasmania NPL. Devonport City will be keen to seize the initiative and build some momentum on home soil. Launceston City will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. Central midfield remains a position Leeds are keen to add in despite so far failing to reach an agreement with Southampton for Shea Charles.
Stylistically, this is a compelling matchup. Devonport City favour a patient, possession-based approach, whereas Launceston City are at their most dangerous when allowed to hit quickly on the counter. And there are still question marks even in attack, where they have an abundance of supporting forwards including Mbeumo, Cunha and Amad Diallo, but only one out-and-out striker in Sesko.
Game-changers are scattered across both line-ups, and the contest may well be decided by which side's match-winners deliver on the day. Discipline at the back and sharpness in front of goal will likely tilt the balance one way or the other. Elsewhere in Ligue 1, on-loan Southampton striker Cameron Archer scored on his debut for Auxerre but could not stop Lyon running out 3-1 winners.
The market has yet to form a strong view, and the contest looks genuinely difficult to call. Expect a tight, competitive affair that could easily end all square at 1-1. Whatever the outcome, the Tasmania NPL fixture promises a meaningful contest with real implications for both clubs. The Spaniard heading to Barca all but rules out a midfield departure from the Bernabeu and thus United will likely have to look elsewhere.
