Derio vs Salamanca UDS - Copa Federacion

The history between Derio and Salamanca UDS lends this Copa Federacion fixture an extra layer of spice, and when the two walk out at the home ground on September 16, 2026, recent encounters will be on everyone's mind. Manchester City face the K-League All-Stars in Seoul as part of their pre-season tour of Asia.

The two sides arrive with plenty to prove, and the Copa Federacion contest at the home ground offers a chance to lay down a marker. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. The visitors will travel in the hope that a change of scene can spark a turnaround, whatever the form book says. Manchester City are nearing an agreement with Marseille for an experienced goalkeeper as they continue reshaping the position behind Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Stylistically, this is a compelling matchup. Derio favour a patient, possession-based approach, whereas Salamanca UDS are at their most dangerous when allowed to hit quickly on the counter. Andoni Iraola, like Luis Enrique, is a coach who demands that his players press high.

In fixtures as finely poised as this one, it often comes down to who holds their nerve in the big moments — and both camps have players who relish that responsibility. The battle in midfield, where both sides look to control tempo, could prove the decisive arena. It is claimed that Old Trafford bosses were told that the Shakhtar ace holds the 'potential to develop into a top-level centre-forward.' It was also said that Elias would slot into United's system well.

The fixture has the feel of a coin-flip, and picking a winner with any conviction would require a braver pundit than most. With the sides so closely matched, a 1-1 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. The result at the home ground could resonate well beyond matchday in the Copa Federacion picture. A more central role appears likely given the sale of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and the anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Amadou Onana at the World Cup.
