Cristóbal Colón JAS vs Olimpia - Copa Paraguay

Few would have predicted the narrative arc that brings Cristóbal Colón JAS and Olimpia together at the home ground on August 26, 2026, and the underdog storyline only adds to the Copa Paraguay occasion. LIV Golf definitely changed the face of the professional game with the extortionate amounts of money that they pumped into the league.

There is little to choose between Cristóbal Colón JAS and Olimpia on paper, and the Copa Paraguay encounter should reflect that balance. The hosts will hope that the the home ground crowd can inspire a performance, whatever the numbers suggest. Olimpia's away form is hard to read, but they will arrive with the belief that they can trouble their hosts. Their 3-0 win over Nice takes them up to second spot in the fledgling Ligue 1 table.

Stylistically, this is a compelling matchup. Cristóbal Colón JAS favour a patient, possession-based approach, whereas Olimpia are at their most dangerous when allowed to hit quickly on the counter. In his press conference on Friday, Tuchel admitted it 'hurt him' not to play the United man in America.

The fixture is likely to be shaped by its key performers, with creative midfielders and clinical finishers on both sides capable of turning the game in an instant. The battle in midfield, where both sides look to control tempo, could prove the decisive arena. One cannot deny that Messi once again starred for Argentina during the tournament despite the team’s extra-time defeat to Spain in the final, where Ferran Torres’s goal secured Spain’s second World Cup.

Predictions are tricky when the sides are this evenly matched, and small margins — a moment of quality, a slice of luck — could decide it either way. The signals point towards a stalemate, with the two sides closely matched across form and standings. A 1-1 draw is easy to envisage. The ramifications of this result could ripple through the Copa Paraguay standings for weeks to come, regardless of who comes out on top. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters says a verdict on the alleged charges against Manchester City "has taken longer than expected".
