Buxton vs South Shields - FA Cup

A fascinating FA Cup chapter awaits on October 3, 2026 when Buxton take on South Shields at the home ground — two sides with plenty to play for and everything to prove. How smooth can you be when receiving the ball, how quickly can you move from the back foot, hips open, face forward and find quality with the pass.

There is little to choose between Buxton and South Shields on paper, and the FA Cup encounter should reflect that balance. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. The visitors will travel in the hope that a change of scene can spark a turnaround, whatever the form book says. Paulo Fonseca's men are still smarting from their Champions League play-off exit but now sit third in the table.

The tactical battle could prove decisive. Buxton may lean on their home advantage to dictate the tempo, but South Shields have shown they can be dangerous when allowed to play on their own terms. After the loss, a lot of questions began to be raised about their different approach to preparing for the game.

Star players on both sides will be eager to make their mark, and the individual duels across the pitch could go a long way to deciding the outcome. Discipline at the back and sharpness in front of goal will likely tilt the balance one way or the other. Several forward have also been under consideration but any potential arrival is linked to Marcus Rashford's future, which looks set to be in Manchester.

Predicting an outright winner is no easy task given how little separates the two sides on paper. Expect a tight, competitive affair that could easily end all square at 1-1. With the standings tight and form on the line, this is a fixture neither side will want to lose.
