Basa vs Gareji - David Kipiani Cup

Basa prepare to host Gareji at the home ground on July 25, 2026, with both sides eager to assert their credentials and claim a result that could define their David Kipiani Cup season. Mason Mount has been outstanding for Man Utd in pre-season but he could still face fierce competition for a place in Michael Carrick's side next season.

Both camps will view the David Kipiani Cup meeting at the home ground as an opportunity to put a marker down, regardless of where they currently stand. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. Gareji will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. Larson’s long-term plans have attracted renewed attention following teammate Alex Bowman’s recent announcement that he intends to retire from full-time Cup Series competition at the end of the 2027 season.

How the two sides approach the contest strategically will be key. Basa will want to control proceedings in front of their own supporters, while Gareji will back themselves to cause problems on the break. City also want to continue improving their attack, with a top left-winger still in the offing too.

Star players on both sides will be eager to make their mark, and the individual duels across the pitch could go a long way to deciding the outcome. The battle in midfield, where both sides look to control tempo, could prove the decisive arena. The Serie A side need to sell before attempting to sign a striker, however.

Predicting an outright winner is no easy task given how little separates the two sides on paper. With the sides so closely matched, a 1-1 stalemate looks the most likely way this one ends. With the standings tight and form on the line, this is a fixture neither side will want to lose. It is likely City adopt a more proactive pressing system higher up the pitch in order to exert territorial control on opponents.
