JS El Biar vs MC Oran - Ligue 1

A fascinating Ligue 1 chapter awaits on October 10, 2026 when JS El Biar take on MC Oran at the home ground — two sides with plenty to play for and everything to prove. That coronation came from City's £116m summer signing Elliot Anderson - and has been hotly debated in the build-up to the Manchester derby Super Sunday showdown at Old Trafford, which you can watch live on Sky Sports.

There is little to choose between JS El Biar and MC Oran on paper, and the Ligue 1 encounter should reflect that balance. The hosts have struggled for consistency, DWLLL in their last five pointing to a win rate of 25%. On the road, MC Oran have been equally impressive — DWWWL in their last five and a win rate of 66.67% for the campaign. Where JS El Biar have leaned on defensive discipline, MC Oran have often taken the initiative going forward, and that stylistic difference should shape the contest. During his 22 matches in charge, Oxford actually ranked as high as 14th in the table.

The tactical battle could prove decisive. JS El Biar may lean on their home advantage to dictate the tempo, but MC Oran have shown they can be dangerous when allowed to play on their own terms. But the key difference is understanding the game, in possession and out of possession.

Neither side is short on individuals capable of tilting the balance, and the duel between the two squads' chief creators could prove particularly pivotal. The battle in midfield, where both sides look to control tempo, could prove the decisive arena. Several forward have also been under consideration but any potential arrival is linked to Marcus Rashford's future, which looks set to be in Manchester.

The market has yet to form a strong view, and the contest looks genuinely difficult to call. A share of the spoils looks the most probable outcome, with neither side holding a decisive edge — a 2-2 draw feels like a fitting result. The result at the home ground could resonate well beyond matchday in the Ligue 1 picture. And Fonseca does not place too much weight on the decision of Roberto Martinez to omit him from the World Cup squad in favour of his Benfica team-mate Tomas Araujo.
