Hai Phong vs Hung Yen - Friendlies Clubs

Tactical intrigue takes centre stage on August 17, 2026 as Hai Phong and Hung Yen prepare to square off at the home ground, with both managers known for their strategic nuance in the Friendlies Clubs. The defender has entered the third year of his scholarship agreement, and United have hoped to tie Kukonki down to a professional contract, which was initially agreed last year.

The two sides arrive with plenty to prove, and the Friendlies Clubs contest at the home ground offers a chance to lay down a marker. The hosts will be looking to find their rhythm and put a run of results together. Hung Yen will travel with intent, knowing that a positive result here could kick-start their campaign. Meanwhile, Paige Bueckers struggled to find her rhythm, going 5-for-13 for 15 points in the loss.

How the two sides approach the contest strategically will be key. Hai Phong will want to control proceedings in front of their own supporters, while Hung Yen will back themselves to cause problems on the break. That radar allows City to retain control, momentum and possession in games, pinning opponents back in the tempered style Guardiola favoured.

Neither side is short on individuals capable of tilting the balance, and the duel between the two squads' chief creators could prove particularly pivotal. The battle in midfield, where both sides look to control tempo, could prove the decisive arena. They plan to open talks with PSG forward Bradley Barcola, but it will be a difficult deal to do with the French and European champions valuing him at around £145m.

With the sides closely matched, the outcome may well hinge on which team takes its chances on the day. The signals point towards a stalemate, with the two sides closely matched across form and standings. A 1-1 draw is easy to envisage. With positions in the Friendlies Clubs table to defend and momentum to chase, neither side can afford to leave anything in the tank. Fulham's Antonee Robinson could be one of those, who would likely be a cheaper alternative to Hall, who has just enjoyed a breakout season with the Magpies.
